Another fraud graces The School's roster of captains.
There is a god that I worship with all my rationality. Like all gods, she is invisible, but unlike all other gods, she is invincible. She will kill me if I don't respect her. Her name is Gravity. I spend a lot of time defying her by flying and sailing, so it may seem. She is omnipotent. If I make a mistake, whether standing still, riding a bicycle, floating on water or flying through air, I will be instantly punished for my sin. No other god is so totally in control. No other god will dish out justice whether or not you believe in her. Her moment-by-moment influence is undeniable. She cannot be overcome. She drives all things in this reality. There is no possible existence for anyone or anything without her presence. She is the lord of all. She is uncompromising. She is absolute.
She is benevolent. Her powers apply to all equally. She is constant, never influenced by the whims of humanity. She doesn't need a special day of the week, a building for worship or an interpreter to falsely translate her purpose. She has but one commandment: do not fall. For if you fall, the earth will come up and smite thee upside your head. Then you will see who is boss.
During the two weeks prior to the trip on Osprey I was working on a treatise. As always, I traveled with my laptop, intent on completing it:
People often confuse Christian Science, the all-time oxymoron, with Scientology, presumably because they misuse the root word "science" and their association with irrational religion in the former case and cult in the latter. Christian Science is a religion founded in the 19th century by a lunatic named Mary Baker Eddy. Scientology was founded in 1950 by a lunatic named L. Ron Hubbard. This is about the religion I was raised in, Christian Science.
If even a small percentage of the claims made by Christian Science were true, there would be a bandwagon full of believers. Freedom from illness is something most people would desire as sure as they would collect fruit from a fig tree or money falling from the sky. But the best Christian Science can do is publish wishful claims of deliverance that have no foundation in reality.
-- is how I began.
